These are the various delivery methods which are often used in place of the traditional classroom method for some courses at STI. They are used in order to help students and provide the flexibility that they may need to further their education.
Accelerated Courses
Accelerated courses are high-speed, high-intensity courses that allow students to complete a course in fewer hours than traditionally paced classes. Accelerated courses are identified with an 'A' after the section number of the course – EX: BUS 101 10C A.
- Meet during a reduced number of weeks or meet during the regular number of weeks for fewer hours per weeks.
- Accelerated pace of learning. 16 week workload completed with less in-class time.
- Total time with the teacher is less than traditional.
- Work deadlines and content completion will be accelerated with much work outside of class each week
- Interaction with the teacher and other students happens both in class and electronically through either email, Datacluster or STInet LMS.
- If a designated laptop “C” class, must use laptop in class. Ex., BUS 101-C.
- More likely to be computer and network expectations for file transfer, email or STInet LMS use.
Hybrid Courses
Interested in taking online courses but not sure you can work completely on your own? Hybrid courses may be a good alternative for you. A blend of online and classroom instruction, hybrid courses provide all the competencies as a traditional course while reducing the amount of time you need to be on campus. Hybrid courses are identified with an 'H' after the section number of the course – EX: BUS 101 10C H – Please note BUS 101 10C AH would be an Accelerated Hybrid course.
- Combination of meeting with teacher during designated hours per week & expected “on-your-own” assignments & reading.
- Traditional or Accelerated pace of learning
- Reduced meeting time with teacher per week with greater expectations of student work outside of class.
- Interaction with the teacher and other students happens both in class and electronically through either email, file shares, or STInet LMS.
- If a designated laptop “C” class, must use laptop in class. Example, BUS 101-C.
- There are additional computer, software and network expectations for file transfer, email, or STInet LMS use.
- An additional $50.00 per credit fee will be added to all hybrid courses.
Online Courses
Online courses offer flexibility and remove barriers once caused by logistics. From Sioux Falls to virtually anywhere, if you have a computer and Internet access as well as the ability to work on your own, you can successfully take classes and earn credits toward your degree. Online courses are identified with an 'O' after the section number of the course – EX: BUS 101 10C O – Please note BUS 101 10C AO would be an Accelerated Online course.
- Online courses do not have the traditional in-class meeting time with the instructor. All interaction between the instructor and the students is all electronic.
- Traditional or Accelerated pace of learning.
- Students must keep pace, manage time, and interact with the instructor via online technology.
- Interaction with the teacher and other students happens only electronically through STInet LMS.
- There are additional computer, software and network expectations for file transfer, email, or STInet LMS use.
- An additional $50.00 per credit fee will be added to all online courses.
