SKILLSUSA STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARDED $1000 GRANT FROM THE JENZABAR FOUNDATION
The Jenzabar Foundation has awarded Southeast Technical Institute’s SkillsUSA student organization with a $1,000 grant to ‘contribute to the continuance of the good work’. SkillsUSA was selected to be a grant recipient because of their exemplary commitment to student leadership and dedication to community service.
At Southeast Tech, the SkillsUSA organization is comprised of approximately fifty members from program areas such as: Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Collision Repair & Refinish Technology, and Machine Tool Technology. This organization funds not only the attendance for the regional and national conferences but also funds community service projects within the Sioux Falls area. The organization has been instrumental in providing community support to the Sioux Falls area by helping to provide a $1,000 “Scholarships for Skills” through the STI Foundation; and participation with the “Holiday House” project, which has allowed the organization to anonymously provide a special “Christmas” of gifts and money to sixteen Sioux Falls area families. SkillsUSA members generously commit their time to fundraise weekly though out the year.

It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills.
SkillsUSA conferences provide an opportunity for Southeast Tech students to compete in various skills competitions within their educational field. They also have the opportunity to compete in and attend various leadership skill building tracks. While competing with larger technical schools and college/universities, Southeast Tech students have earned many top awards and honors at these conferences.
