STI’s E-mail Policy – NO OPT OUT
Southeast Technical Institute students and employees are required to receive STI email, as it is an official means of communication. Students and employees are not allowed to opt out of STI emails, including the STI Alert System emergency communications.
What is the STI Alert System?
Southeast Technical Institute’s emergency notification system, known as STI Alert System, will enable us to communicate with you quickly in the event of an emergency. The STI Alert system will send messages to your STI email address and up to two phone numbers that you provide. All students and employees are required to provide at least one phone number contact to be used with the alert system.
In what situations will a STI Alert be sent?
A STI Alert will be sent only to inform you of an imminent emergency, such as a fire, tornado, threat of violence, chemical hazard, or of significant other events such as a school closing, snow emergency, or power outage. Test messages will also be sent approximately once a semester.
How to update contact info?
Students
If you should want to make a change or an addition to the phone numbers to which these messages are going, please contact STI Student Services. Students must provide at least one phone number to STI for use with this system.
Employees
If you should want to make a change or an addition to the phone numbers to which these messages are going, please contact STI Human Resources Department. Employees must provide at least one phone number to STI for use with this system.
Is my contact information secure?
The contact information submitted for the STI Alert system will be kept private and confidential. It will not be shared with other entities, but used only by Southeast Technical Institute to communicate with you in the case of an emergency on campus.
I see a caller ID display of 605.367.5553. Who is this?
When STI sends out a call using the STI Alert System, it will display caller ID information and the phone number 605.367.5553. Please save this number on your cell phone so you recognize calls from STI’s Alert System.
I received a STI Alert voice message but missed the information. What should I do?
While on the call, you can replay the message by pressing the star key (*) at the end of the message. You may also check your STI email to locate the link for that message.
I received a STI Alert message on my cell phone but it kept looping/repeating. Why?
The system does its best to detect whether it has reached a live person or an answering machine. Sometimes loud ambient noises may cause the system to loop. If this happens, use the mute feature on your phone or move to a quieter location to prevent the message from looping or repeating.
How does the system respond to busy signals or no-answer situations?
For busy signals, the call will be repeated twice in an attempt to reach you. The same is true for No-answer and Call-waiting. If the phone is answered by a message recorder, the message will be left on the answering device. If, after several attempts the call does not successfully go through, the system will stop attempting and report your number to be busy.
I received the message in my email inbox, but when I clicked the link to play the message nothing happened. Why?
You may not have a default media player like Windows Media Player or Quicktime installed on your computer. Download these players from www.microsoft.com or www.apple.com and install on your computer to listen to messages.
I have questions not answered here. Who should I call?
Please call the STI IT Help Desk at 605.367.4461.
