Available External Scholarships  
South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship:  This scholarship is designated for the most academically accomplished high school graduates to receive an affordable education at any university, college, or technical school in South Dakota that is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  The South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship provides $5,000 over four years to a qualifying student who attends an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota.  Recipients may participate in the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship Program for the equivalent of four academic years (eight consecutive fall and spring terms), or until attaining a baccalaureate degree. During each academic year, one-half of the annual scholarship award will be distributed at the beginning of the fall semester and the other half distributed at the beginning of the spring semester.  Scholarship requirements can be found at:  http://www.sdbor.edu/OpportunityScholarship/sdos.htm.  Completed applications and high school transcripts should be forwarded to:

Yankton Medical Clinic Scholarship:  Each applicant must be currently enrolled in a laboratory, radiology, respiratory therapy or nursing program.  Preference will be given to those with an intention to return to work in one of the above mentioned fields within a 50 mile radius of Yankton, SD.  Deadline is 3/31/2010.  Award is $1000.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office (MC200).

SD Soil and Water Conservation Society:  Applicants must have completed at least one year of study in an accredited university, college (including tribal colleges), or technical school in South Dakota, and be currently enrolled.  Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8 (on a 4.0 point scale), and be an undergraduate enrolled in an agricultural or natural science conservation related major/curriculum.  Past applicants have majored in horticulture.  Other majors related to conservation also qualify.  Deadline is 3/31/2010.  Awards are $500.  Applications can be obtained on our website: www.sdswcs.org click on Scholarships on the left side.

Richard Hagen – Minerva Harvey Scholarship:  Applicants must have graduated from an accredited SD high school.  Applicants must apply within 5-years of high school graduation or 1-year of release from active military duty.  The applicant must be a member of an American Indian Tribe.  Deadline is 3/31/2010.  Applications are available at http://doe.sd.gov/scholarships/hagen/index.asp  or in the Financial Aid Office (MC200).

SD Retailers Scholarship:  Applicants must plan to enroll in a business or retail related course of study.  Examples may include:  HVAC, Marketing, Business Administration, Auto Tech/Collision, Accounting, etc.  Deadline is 4/9/2010.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office (MC200).

Waneta Drake Miller Edmison Non-Traditional Scholarship:  Applicants must be 24 years of age or older, and they must live in Minnehaha, Lincoln, Turner, or McCook counties.  Applicant must have successfully completed 6 credits in a degree program, and they also must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per academic term.  Applicants must have participated in community service activities.  Deadline is 3/15/2010.  Awards are $1000.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office (MC200).
