Southeast Technical Institute was the first campus in South Dakota to initiate the use of a laptop program for its students. Why? Employers throughout the country expect employees to have strong computer skills from day one.
STI’s students hone these skills every day just by attending classes and completing assignments.

  • Check course syllabi, assignments, and project information.
  • Submit assignments. Communicate with instructors or other students any time, from anywhere on campus.
  • Receive instructor reminders for assignments.
Why Purchase a STI Laptop?
We believe it’s better to purchase a laptop from Southeast than to bring your own. Southeast purchases nearly a thousand laptops directly from the manufacturer every year, and we pass those savings on to you. In addition, Southeast laptops are guaranteed to have the correct software for all of the courses included in the laptop purchase price. Southeast laptops are covered by our comprehensive service arrangement which includes onsite repair and customer support.
 
 
You Already Own a Laptop... Does It Measure Up?
If you already own a laptop or are planning on purchasing your own, it must meet STI’s standards. Check with STI’s Helpdesk about required hardware, software, and related computing requirements and costs before purchasing a laptop.
  • Each program of study has specific requirements, and the laptop must be compatible with STI’s wireless network.
  • STI does not provide software for student-owned laptops. Student-licensed software can cost up to $3,500, depending upon program requirements.
  • A one-time network set-up fee of $25 will be charged.
  • Technical support is available from STI’s Helpdesk. However, a service fee of $50 per hour with a one-hour minimum will be charged for each technical support incident.

Laptop Software Requirements

I’ve Never Used a Laptop Before... Don’t worry!
An initial short-term training session and/or credit class regarding the care and use of the laptop is available. Additional laptop training is integrated throughout your program of study.
 
Help – I Think It’s Broken!
A fully staffed Helpdesk is available to assist students with laptop problems, questions, or repairs. If your STI laptop requires long-term repair, a loaner laptop will be provided. Warranty repair is included in the lease fee which covers parts and labor. The warranty length varies by model type leased. You may upgrade your laptop at your own expense any time.
