Accounting and Business, Program Instructor, Full Time

This position provides instruction for Southeast Tech’s Accounting Programs that prepares students for entry-level positions in the accounting field. Continually assess and enhance the program according to the educational standards of Southeast Tech and its accrediting bodies.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, teach and assess in accordance with a competency-based curriculum instruction model.

  • Utilize effective teaching techniques and promote academic achievement for all students through appropriate classroom rigor.

  • Establish a learning climate the promotes orderly classroom management techniques while maintaining the well-being, health, safety, and dignity of each student.

  • Utilize the community as a learning resource and as an extension of the classroom for students.

  • Monitor student classroom effort, homework, and special assignments to provide the most effective and efficient use of academic learning time, feedback , and assessment.

  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate student internship activities

  • Build good interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues to facilitate an effective program advisory committee.

  • Participate in institutional committees and team/program committees.

  • Participate in, complete and report on program area to meet Southeast Tech and Higher Learning Commission requirements.

  • Mentor adjunct and part-time program staff.

  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver courses that include traditional, hybrid, online, evening or week-end format.

  • Self motivated to seek out and participate in professional growth experiences that apply new technologies and knowledge to this position.    


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business required.

  • CPA preferred.

  • Three plus years’ experience in accounting or accounting/business field required.

  • Experience with computer accounting systems, tax and payroll accounting.

  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred that includes traditional classroom and online course development and delivery.

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows. Ability to learn and utilize on-line software systems applicable to Southeast Tech, the Academics Department, and the Accounting and Business Programs.

  • Ability to attain South Dakota post-secondary credential.


  • Position works 186 day instructor contract, July through June work schedule.

  • Annual salary range for Bachelor's degree: $43,356-$55,063 

  • Availability to begin August, 2014, or earlier
