Southeast Tech addresses critical need for welders with short term, affordable certifications.
The need for welders in the Sioux Falls region as well as South Dakota hasn’t gone away. In fact, the demand continues to grow here and across the nation. According to the Wall Street Journal, “It’s a great time to be a welder. Thanks to a global boom in industrial manufacturing, skilled welders are in greater demand than ever. Companies can’t find enough of them.”
Working in collaboration with area industry partners, Southeast Tech has identified that there is a critical need for on-going training and continued workforce development that may be best addressed through corporate education or short-term certifications.
Cindy Krekelberg, HR Manager at Harvard Integrations shared a letter of support for the proposed certifications. “Southeast Technical Institute takes their role as a business partner to the community they serve seriously. With an unemployment rate of 1.9%, it is a challenge to try and find skilled labor. It is our belief that if this new program is implemented, it will help many employers in the area. The chance for the students to test for AWS certification is an added level of comfort that they will be ready for the workforce.” Harvard Integrations, based in Tea, South Dakota is a privately-owned manufacturer and marketer of a diverse line of custom enclosures and accessories.
Southeast Tech will launch four new short-term Welding Technology Certificates which can be completed in as little as 8 weeks for just $1,080 each.
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
- Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
Students will be able to choose from an 8-week daytime program or 16-week evening program to fit both their work schedule as well as their lifestyle. Courses are taught with intensive hands-on instruction and students will have the opportunity to test for American Welding Society (AWS) certification prior to the end of the program.
