Eric Dissing provides specialized medical expertise to the region.
Like many South Dakota graduates, Eric Dissing chose to attend a traditional college directly after finishing high school. But after two years and no clear direction to a satisfying career, he made the decision to transfer to Southeast Tech. “I felt like I was simply ‘putting in my time’ while standing still to eventually earn a degree. I wanted a focused curriculum that I knew was going to be essential to my future career. Southeast Tech provided a focus that truly helped me strive forward.”
After enrolling in the Cardiovascular Technology program, Eric was pleased with his choice. “The small class sizes made for a great learning atmosphere and the instructors were always very helpful when you needed it. They fostered a closely-knit collaboration of traditional and nontraditional students. It was nice to be ‘known’ by name and not just a number.”
Eric has been an asset to Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center since 2000, having secured a position with the healthcare facility during his clinical internship in 1999. Today, he serves as the Echocardiography Technical Director as well as Cardiovascular Sonographer. He notes, “My education at Southeast Tech was truly top notch. I went to my clinical feeling completely confident with the knowledge of the field and the technical hands-on abilities.”
The only sonographer in the region to be registered in Vascular, Adult Echocardiography, Pediatric Echocardiography and Fetal Echocardiography, Eric has definitely excelled in his field. According to Patty Larson, Manager-CVS, Imaging Services with Avera, “Eric is a true shining star and has been a great asset to our department since he started. His personal motivation for quality and success are a couple of his attributes that make him an outstanding role model for others.”
