Southeast Tech Students Assist Governor in 'Week of Work' Kickoff

Two Southeast Technical Institute students Tycho Clausen, Joel Elson and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem were on hand at Malloy Electric in Sioux Falls this week to help kick off the first-ever SD Week of Work Initiative, which is scheduled for April 20-24, 2020.

The program's purpose is to expose high school sophomores to various career avenues via job shadowing, classroom connections, guest speakers or industry tours. The week is intended to be a week of exploration, with the aim of guiding students, engaging local businesses, and introducing employers to their future workforce.

According to Gov. Noem, students are gaining the knowledge they need through the education process, but don't necessarily learn how to relate and succeed in the workplace though traditional coursework.

"That's exactly what we're going to be focusing on in this program is a well-rounded individual that can go out and help us all be successful," Gov. Noem said.
