Southeast Technical College Enrolling, Serving and Graduating More Students to Meet South Dakota’s Workforce Needs

Fall 2023 Enrollment Hits Decade High

Fall 2023 enrollment at Southeast Technical College hit a decade high with a total student headcount of 2,478, and that’s on the heels of serving a record number of 3,095 total students and awarding 935 associate degrees, diplomas and certificates during the 2022-23 academic year. An additional 215 students completed a course through STC’s Corporate Education division.

“Seeing continued growth is exciting and a trajectory we plan to continue,” said STC President Bob Griggs.

“It’s our mission to help grow the workforce, and educating individuals for high-need careers is the first step in responding to South Dakota’s workforce needs.”

Of degree-seeking students this fall, nearly half (49%) are enrolled part time, signaling a shift in student demographics toward more non-traditional learners.

Additionally, 17% of this fall’s degree-seeking students are from out of state, while the most recent Graduate Outcomes Report cites 91% of graduates stay in South Dakota, making STC a talent importer for the state and region.

“Not only does Southeast Tech foster its industry partnerships to ensure we offer career-relevant training, but we also keep our students’ needs close to heart with support and academic services for our ever-diversifying student body,” Griggs said.

In Spring 2024, STC’s new Healthcare Simulation Center, formerly the Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship, will open and three new healthcare programs will launch, including Respiratory Therapist, Medical Lab Technician and Mental and Behavioral Health Technician.
