Spring 2024 Enrollment up 8%

Fall-to-Fall Retention Rate Hits Record High

Southeast Technical College’s Spring 2024 enrollment is up 8% compared to Spring 2023, and it marks the college’s highest spring enrollment in a decade. STC is serving 2,462 students this spring. Unduplicated headcount so far this academic year for fall and spring semesters is 3,019 students with more starting at the Summer 2024 term on May 13.

“Sioux Falls is growing in population and workforce needs, and we’re growing with the city and fulfilling our workforce mission,” said STC President Robert Griggs.

STC also saw a 10-year high in its Fall 2023 enrollment numbers as well as a boost in its fall-to-fall retention rate, which stands at an impressive 80%, a 5% increase from Fall 2022.

“Our enrollment increase is predominately due to student persistence and dedicated faculty and staff,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Megan Fischer. “We’re committed to providing all students – high school, traditional or non-traditional, full-time or part-time, on-campus or online – options to make earning a credential possible so they can get that degree and get to work.”

One of Griggs’ top priorities throughout his seven-year tenure at STC is industry partnerships. This year STC launched three new programs in response to industry–Respiratory Therapist, Behavioral and Mental Health Technician and Medical Lab Technician. The college also opened in January its state-of-the-art Healthcare Simulation Center.

“Southeast Tech is incredibly proud to partner with Avera, Sanford, the city of Sioux Falls, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Forward Sioux Falls and the state of South Dakota to make this facility a reality for students and our community,” said Griggs.
