Southeast Technical College students in the Early Childhood Specialist program attended the Sioux Falls WOW event at the Orpheum theater on Jan. 17. LeAnn Soucy and Kathy Gallo, veteran early childhood educators, content creators and speakers known as “Two Pushy Dames,” spoke at the event.

Leann and Kathy have years of experience in the early childhood field and focus on the importance of playing and getting messy. Their webpage states that childhood is a precious life experience that can never be repeated, so they are pushing back against the pressure of “standards, assessments and high-stakes testing” in early childhood education.

Sioux Falls WOW featured seminars titled “Embrace the Muck and Yuck” and “PLAY is not just a four-letter word,” for students to learn more about how to incorporate fun, engaging activities into their future classrooms. By making learning fun, early childhood educators can inspire a life-long joy in learning that leads to better outcomes for children throughout the rest of their lives.”
