Members of Industry Visit Campus for Program Advisory Event
On Friday, December 14, nearly 300 local and regional industry leaders who serve on
Southeast Tech’s academic advisory committees visited campus.
The meeting, held in The HUB, featured a keynote address by Southeast Tech President Bob Griggs and Career and Technical Education Academy Principal Josh Hall on new and ongoing
efforts to support workforce development in Sioux Falls and throughout the region
including:
- Internship opportunities made possible thanks to a $250,000 Youth Workforce Development grant from the Citi Foundation.
- New academic programs under consideration.
- New apprenticeship programs under consideration.
Following the keynote, program-specific committees made up of local and regional business
leaders, faculty and staff met to discuss and evaluate academic curriculum, academic
facilities and resources for Southeast Tech’s 60-plus programs in accordance with
industry trends and workforce needs.
“Southeast Tech is the workforce college for Sioux Falls, so hearing from industry
leaders about what skills and experience they need in tomorrow’s employees is essential
for us,” said Southeast Tech President Bob Griggs. “We’re grateful to our advisory
committee members for sharing their insights with us as we work to continuously enhance
our programs to ensure they remain relevant and useful to employers throughout the
region as well as the students we serve.”
