Sen. John Thune and Rep. Dusty Johnson Will Deliver Keynote Addresses

Dual Graduation Ceremonies Scheduled for May 7

South Dakota Senator John Thune and Representative Dusty Johnson will deliver keynote speeches at Southeast Technical College’s commencement ceremonies on May 7.

“Southeast Tech is thrilled and honored to have Sen. Thune and Rep. Johnson speak at our commencements,” said STC President Robert Griggs. “Both are outstanding leaders and champions for South Dakota and technical education.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the need to social distance, STC is hosting two, smaller ceremonies to honor both the Class of 2021, as well as 2020 graduates who wish to walk across the stage as their ceremonies were virtual last year.

Both ceremonies will be held at the Sioux Falls Arena. Sen. Thune will address the healthcare, law enforcement, early childhood and Class of 2020 graduates at the 2 p.m. graduation ceremony. Rep. Johnson will address graduates in all other programs at the 5 p.m. ceremony.

“I am excited to be joining Southeast Technical College’s 2021 commencement ceremony next month. I wish students the best of luck with the remainder of their studies and hope they finish the school year strong,” said Thune.

Rep. Johnson says the need for technical education is great across the country. “There are so many high paying jobs waiting to be filled, and the students from Southeast Tech will graduate having the unique skillset to fill those jobs in our communities,” Johnson said.
