Students in Engineering Technology programs at STC were busy this week taking part in Engineers Week. Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), E-Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.

Here is a rundown of activities:

  • Geodetic Dome kit assembly – Students assembled more than 100 geodetic dome kits for kits to assemble. The kits contained instructions, gumdrops and toothpicks.
  • Geodetic Dome kit distribution – Students handed the kits out at the Empire Mall in conjunction with the South Dakota Engineering Society. Students assisted kids with construction of the domes or handed out kits as a take home project.
  • Donuts with Dean – All engineering technology department students had “Donuts with Dean,” courtesy of Dean Fenecia Foster in celebration of E-Week.
  • MATHCOUNTS – Students helped grade exams from the MATHCOUNTS competition that was held on campus. It was hosted by the South Dakota Engineering Society and open to grades 6-8. Patrick Henry Middle School was the winner!
  • Demonstrations at CTE Open House – Students demonstrated how a survey scanner works and provided drone presentations at the CTE Open House.
