Scarbrough Center Director Honored at Industry Conference
Tami Skorczewski Receives SDAEYC Professional Service Award
Tami Skorczewski, director of the Scarbrough Center, Southeast Technical College’s on-site childcare facility, was awarded the Professional Service Award by the South Dakota Association for the Education of Young Children (SDAEYC) at the annual conference in Huron last week.
“Tami has been a devoted early childhood educator for more than 30 years,” said Loretta Leloux, an instructor in the Early Childhood Specialist program, who nominated Skorcewski for the award. “Not only is her commitment demonstrated by her longevity in the field, but her energy is contagious. She has been instrumental in leading various organizations and community service projects within the field of early childhood and beyond.”
Skorczewski has served in many leadership roles throughout her career, including local and regional industry organizations for childcare providers and center directors. She also leads the annual Sioux Falls WOW conference.
The award also recognizes Skorczewski’s day-to-day work with children, families and colleagues. She has established many professional relationships in her community, serves as a mentor for other childcare center directors, and is a lifelong learner.
“As a colleague of Tami, I am always impressed with her attitude, positive energy and forward-thinking,” Leloux said. “She is very deserving of this award for the many years she has served the state of South Dakota, her local community and her place of employment.”
