Southeast Technical College has concluded Campaign NEXT, a five-year comprehensive fundraising campaign that raised $38.5 million to expand opportunities for students, strengthen academic programs and support workforce development across the Sioux Falls region.
Originally launched with a goal of $25 million, the campaign’s success prompted leaders to raise the goal to $30 million midway through the effort. Campaign NEXT, Co-chaired by Mark and Cynthia Mickelson and Tony Nour, ultimately surpassed both targets, finishing $8.5 million beyond the revised goal when the campaign closed on Dec. 31, 2025.
Campaign NEXT drew support from more than 300 unique donors, including eight donors who contributed or committed gifts of $1 million or more. Approximately one-third of the gifts came from individual donors, while two-thirds were provided by companies, foundations and endowments, demonstrating broad support from the business and philanthropic communities that rely on Southeast Tech graduates.
“The success of Campaign NEXT reflects the incredible breadth of support we have from our community,” said Dr. Cory Clasemann, president of Southeast Technical College. “Our donors represent a wide range of industries, and they are investing in the programs that help Sioux Falls grow.”
Stephen Williamson, Associate Vice President of the Southeast Technical College Foundation, agreed, adding “Campaign NEXT helped us stay laser-focused on our mission. With strong support from industry partners and donors, we’ve been able to invest in programs that prepare students for meaningful careers while helping employers meet workforce demand.”
Campaign NEXT helped expand scholarships, strengthen high-demand programs, and support facilities and equipment that ensure students graduate with hands-on experience aligned with real-world careers. It touched efforts like the Healthcare Simulation Center, the Office of Access and Workforce Opportunity, student services and scholarships, and most recently, the soon-to-be constructed James Abdnor Center for Advanced Manufacturing.
“This campaign represents what can happen when a community comes together to invest in students and the workforce that will shape our region’s future,” said Cynthia Mickelson. “Southeast Technical College is known for its practical, career-focused education and strong partnerships with employers across the region. Campaign NEXT was successful in helping realize those goals.”
