Cardiac Ultrasound, or Echocardiography, is an imaging technology that plays an important role in the diagnosis of heart disease. With a degree in Cardiac Sonography from Southeast Tech, you will collect structural, functional and hemodynamic measurements for interpretation by a cardiologist.
Sonography is the use of high-frequency sound waves to create images of organs, tissues or blood flow for evaluation and analysis. The role of a cardiac sonographer is to:
- Analyze technical information
- Operate ultrasound equipment to optimize images proficiently
- Recognize cardiovascular pathology and tailor an exam accordingly
- Report findings to physician
STC's program provides hands-on scanning with an academic curriculum in echocardiographic principles, technology, ultrasound physics and instrumentation.

Why STC: Clinical Experience
Before completing your Associate of Applied Science degree at STC, you will complete a seven-month clinical rotation at a medical center in the U.S.
Internships provide relevant and valuable work experience from established cardiac sonographers. Mastering technical skills and developing an appropriate level of professionalism serves as the foundation to securing employment.

Accreditation: Southeast Technical College’s Cardiac Sonography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Board Exams: Southeast Tech’s CAAHEP accreditation requires that Cardiac Sonography students sit for their ARDMS board exams. You will receive the credential of Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the ARDMS following successful completion of your exams.
Hands-on Learning: The Cardiac Sonography program uses STC’s state-of-the-art sonography lab to give you first-hand experience with today’s technology.
