Avera Academy: A Southeast Tech Partnership with Avera Health and the Sioux Falls School District
This fall, 24 seniors enrolled in Sioux Falls public schools will be on Southeast Tech’s campus, earning both high school and college credit, while learning more about careers in healthcare through a new partnership between Avera, the Sioux Falls School District (SFSD) and Southeast Tech.
Students enrolled in Avera Academy will spend four mornings a week at Southeast Tech doing coursework. They will spend Friday mornings at Avera becoming familiar with the variety of career opportunities that are available throughout the health system.
The program is designed to provide opportunities to students to explore careers in the healthcare field. Avera Health is providing funding to cover the cost of the partnership and will also help provide tuition assistance to those students who want to continue their education at the college level.
Southeast Tech offers 15 degrees or certificates in the Healthcare and Medical Technology fields, including sonography, coding, phlebotomy, surgical technology and nursing. However, Avera Health employs almost all types of Southeast Tech’s graduates from its 60+ academic programs.
