Southeast Tech, Dakota Wesleyan Announce Articulation Agreements

Agreements Provide Additional Pathways for STC Graduates

MITCHELL, S.D. – Southeast Technical College of Sioux Falls and Dakota Wesleyan University of Mitchell have announced five new articulation agreements allowing students to move easily from graduating from Southeast Tech to completion of a bachelor’s degree at DWU.  Programs covered by the new agreements include Accounting; Business Administration; Law Enforcement to Criminal Justice; Marketing; and Media Design to Digital Media and Design.

Students who complete an Associate of Applied Science degree within any of the majors will be able to receive 60 credit hours toward their bachelor of science or bachelor of arts degree at DWU. Sixty additional credits will be required by Dakota Wesleyan in order for the student to complete a degree. There are specific course requirements for each of the programs. In most cases the student will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of study.

“The articulations with Dakota Wesleyan provide additional pathways for our students to achieve their ultimate career goals, said Dr. Benjamin Valdez, Southeast Tech’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Technical colleges provide a great foundation for both students that wish to complete a bachelor’s degree, and those that enter the workforce with an associate degree.”

Fredel Thomas, vice president of admissions and marketing at DWU, is looking forward to implementing the new agreements. “The partnerships and articulation agreements we enter into with other colleges are vital to the success of students who want to advance their education. We are so happy to be partnering with Southeast Tech, something we have been working toward for some time.”

Thomas is excited about the possibilities. “These agreements really honor all the hard work that students have put into their education at Southeast by creating a streamlined pathway to their bachelor’s degree. Students who graduate from Southeast’s programs will find a great fit at DWU and will be able to attain their bachelor’s degree in only a couple of years. The regional workforce will also benefit as they will have access to highly qualified graduates in a number of areas.”

The agreements apply to any Southeast Tech student who meets the requirements and enrolls at DWU beginning in fall 2021.
