STC Announces New Learning Options for Medical Assistant Program

Hybrid Format Available in Fall, Spring

Southeast Technical College’s Medical Assistant program has been expanded to include new programming options designed to fit the needs of working students and those looking to advance their education. Beginning with the fall 2025 semester on Aug. 25, students have the option to complete the program using a hybrid format that includes online coursework and on-campus lab activities.

“The new hybrid option for our Medical Assistant program includes lectures that are delivered online with guided support, and on-campus lab classes one to two nights per week,” said Jo Penning, program director for the Medical Assistant program.

An additional hybrid cohort will also begin in spring 2026. The new options are in addition to the daytime, part-time, evening and Huron, S.D., courses offered previously.

The new modalities are in response to the urgent demand for medical assistants in the region, and STC has partnered with industry to offer sponsorship and scholarship opportunities for interested students.

Penning continued, “Thanks to valuable partnerships with Sanford Health and Avera Health, students may qualify for tuition assistance, scholarships, and even job placement after graduation. These opportunities reduce financial barriers and provide direct connections to employers in the region.”
