The Traditional Pathway is an all-inclusive course for new drivers that meets all necessary criteria for Entry Level Driver Training as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for a Class A CDL. This is a traditional, instructor-led course where students learn essentials such as vehicle inspection, backing, city driving and rural driving.
Students are on campus for full days of training and in-class instruction, Monday-Thursday, for four weeks. Classes are held at the Ed Wood Center on campus. A new class starts every first Monday of the month.
Course Requirements
To acquire a Class A CDL, applicants must meet various requirements put forth by Southeast Technical College and the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
- Completed registration form
- Signed release from
- Copy of driver’s license
- Copy of instructional permit
- Copy of recent DOT physical
- DOT drug screening (no more than 30 days before the first day of class)
- Tuition payment or third-party payment authorization (if an employer is covering tuition)

Cost
The total cost for Class A CDL Training is $6,000. Federal financial aid is not available, however, options for tuition assistance are available.

Request information and submit your application
Individuals interested in the Traditional Class A CDL Course should complete an inquiry form. Then, a representative from Southeast Tech's Corporate Education division will be in touch with application and registration materials.

Submit Required Documentation
Prepare and submit the additional documentation needed to enroll. Examples include, but are not limited to drug screen, DOT physical, and a disclosure and release form.

Pay Balance
The balance of the course must be paid in full prior to classes beginning.

Enroll
When all required documentation and application materials have been submitted and processed, applicants will work with STC to officially enroll.
