Emergency Medical Technician
Course
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) serve a vital link in the chain of a healthcare team. They conduct basic, noninvasive interventions to help save lives and reduce harm at emergency sites. They can do everything a responder does. Plus, they have the skills needed to transport patients safely.
Develop the Life-Saving Skills You Need to Serve on the Front Lines of Emergency Care
At Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, our basic EMT course is designed to instruct students to a basic EMT level. It is recognized that a majority of pre-hospital emergency medical care will be provided by an EMT. You will learn the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life-support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service.
Gain Real Experience Through a Clinical Rotation
As part of the EMT course at Southeast Technical College, students complete a 12-hour clinical rotation that puts skills to work in real emergency settings. Through this hands-on experience, students observe patient care, practice essential techniques and learn directly from trained professionals. It’s a practical way to build confidence, understand the pace of the field and see what it’s like to support patients when they need it most.
Take Your Healthcare Training to the Next Level
Southeast Tech’s EMT course is more than a starting point—it’s a gateway to many healthcare careers. This course serves as a pre-requisite for many of STC's other healthcare programs and can be stacked directly into a Paramedic Science associate degree.
Students can use the EMT course to explore the fast-paced world of emergency care while building skills they can carry into nursing, paramedicine or other clinical fields.
