Electrician

Associate Degree Program - 69 Credits

Electricians install, maintain and repair lighting, control systems, electrical power and communications in the high-demand construction industry in Sioux Falls and across the nation. Most buildings require electrical systems that make our lives easier and more comfortable.

As a top electrician from Southeast Technical College, you would be a valuable asset on any residential, commercial, ag or industrial project. Your career duties will include installing wiring systems, designing circuits, reading blueprints and using power tools. In just two years at STC, you will be ready to launch your career as an electrical apprentice.

Your other duties might include: 

  • Repairing/replacing wiring or equipment
  • Meeting state/local building codes
  • Training workers to install/maintain wiring
  • Reading blueprints or diagrams
  • Installing control systems and lighting

What Will You Learn at Southeast Tech?

Your construction-centered coursework in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the perfect opportunity to learn to install and maintain fuses, wiring, and other systems. By reading blueprints, you will be able to locate circuits, panel boards, load centers, outlets and other electrical equipment. You will get to learn all of these skills right here on campus in the Ed Wood Trade and Industry Center.

Best benefit: Upon completion of the two-year program, you will receive 2,000 hours toward certification and be placed in the third year of the Electrician’s apprenticeship program. Your classes also help you: 

Use Technology in Your Field: You will learn to use voltmeters, thermal scanners, ammeters and cable testers in your daily work. In addition, you will utilize blueprints and technical wiring diagrams to locate circuits, outlets and other equipment.

Problem Solve: Electricians use various tests and manuals to diagnose problems, and then devise and implement repairs.

Be a Valuable Team Member: As a talented electrician from Southeast Tech, you will be friendly and polite, follow instructions and communicate well with customers.
